How to get more Google reviews without being pushy

Reviews help you rank and help people choose you. The best way to get more is to ask well, at the right moment.

Reviews are one of the strongest signals for both Google and customers. A business with a steady flow of recent, genuine reviews tends to look more trustworthy than one with a few old ones. The challenge is asking without feeling awkward. Here is a simple approach.

Ask at the right moment

Ask just after something has gone well: a smooth service, a delivered order, a compliment. People are most willing to help when the good feeling is fresh.

Make it easy

  • Use your Google review link, which you can find in your Business Profile, and turn it into a QR code for your counter or receipt.
  • Send the link in a WhatsApp message or email straight after the visit.
  • Keep the ask short: one line and one link.

A simple message to send

Hi [Name], thank you for choosing us today. If you were happy with the service, would you mind leaving a short Google review? It helps other people find us. [link]

Reply to every review

Thank people by name and mention something specific. For a negative review, stay calm, apologise where it is fair, offer to fix it offline and keep it short. Future customers read how you respond, often more than the complaint itself.

What not to do

  • Do not pay for reviews or offer discounts in exchange for them.
  • Do not only ask happy customers (review gating). It is against Google's policies.
  • Do not write reviews for your own business or ask staff to.
  • Do not argue with a reviewer in public.

Make it a habit

Pick one routine, such as a QR code at the till and a follow-up message for bigger jobs, and stick to it. A few new reviews a week beats a rush once a year, and the effect on your Maps ranking and conversions builds steadily.
