What a small-business website needs in 2026: a no-nonsense checklist
A good website is clear, quick and easy to act on. Here is the list we check every site against.

A small-business website does not need to be flashy. It needs to answer three questions in the first few seconds: what do you do, where, and how do I contact you? Here is the checklist we use.
The basics every site needs
- A clear headline that says what you do and where.
- One main action on every page, such as call, WhatsApp or book.
- Tap-to-call and WhatsApp buttons that work on a phone.
- Your address, hours and a map, if customers visit you.
- Real photos of your business, team and work.
- Reviews or testimonials from real customers.
Mobile first
Most visitors will arrive on a phone, often on a mobile connection. Check that text is readable without zooming, buttons are large enough to tap and nothing jumps around while the page loads.
Speed
Slow pages lose visitors and rank less well. Compress images, avoid heavy plug-ins and choose reliable hosting. You can test your site for free with Google PageSpeed Insights.
Content that answers questions
Create a page for each main service and an FAQ that answers what customers ask you every week. This helps both people and search engines, including AI assistants.
Trust and compliance
- A privacy policy that explains how you handle personal data, in line with Singapore's PDPA.
- Clear consent where you collect details through forms.
- HTTPS on every page.
- Business details that match your Google profile.
Found by search and AI
- Unique titles and descriptions for each page.
- Structured data for your business, services and FAQs.
- A sitemap submitted to Google Search Console.
- Consistent business information across the web.
Track and maintain
Install analytics and track the actions that matter, such as calls and WhatsApp taps. Keep software updated and make sure you own your domain and your site. A website is a working tool, so review it every few months.
